It does what it's supposed to do! It's an extremely loud, ear-piercing whistle. I would never let one find its way into the hands of my more annoying friends. You know the ones -- they have more fun with your dog's squeaky toys than your dog does.
At any rate, this whistle is great. It's extremely sturdy and has no moving parts - perfect for water environments. I have mine in a pocket on my PFD, and it fits really well in small places like this because it's flat, leaving a small footprint.
Of course, there are several reasons why a whistle is a good thing to have when you're out on the water. One of my reasons for buying it, though, I haven't yet used it for. I have read conflicting theories about smacking your paddle on the water to scare off nearby alligators, with some saying that it makes you sound like injured prey. The whistle is suggested as an alternative. Now, whether that will be an Alligator Dispersion Tool or merely an Alligator Irritant remains to be seen. Hopefully it will be the former. :-)
At any rate, as a standard PFD attachment, this whistle does the trick, and does it well. Highly recommended.
